Filming Turkey Hunts

Post by Grant » Thu Jan 16, 2014 10:00 pm

I would like to start off by saying that you are either going to love it, or you are going to hate it. You have to have the passion not only in front of the camera but behind the camera as well. Filming turkey hunts takes a lot of time and patience and there will be numerous times in the field where nothing seems to come together, yet there will be days when it does, just like chasing that ole tom around every spring.

I say this same thing every year. I think it is like 10yrs running. I hope I can at least film somebody else. My son did buy the bracket that attaches his GoPro to the shotgun. I might try it.

To anyone who plans to use DSLRs ....They will overheat and shut down after about ten minutes of filming . Some more (Time ) and some less . You may want to do some testing ,before you go to the field .

That's what I have heard. Not sure what the 70d can do yet. I did discover manual focus is a must for my dslr. The autofocus can be heard thru the audio...

A friend of mine ,Has a 60d he uses for videoing his son who plays Tuba for GT. It will make it through the halftime show most of the time ,but he was not completely happy with it . He is the one with the EFs100-400 l that I use from time to time . He never has complained bout hearing the AF , but he is not in the woods ether ...just a side note , the focus lock "Beep " sometimes will bring IN the turkeys ,I have had it go both ways ,so I turn it off..... as well as I use "Back button focus " Have I mentioned how important " BBF" is in wildlife photography ? (That is my attempt to be funny )

I remember the BBF and have used it since :-)
