youth gun or full size?

Post by Stonepony » Wed Feb 26, 2014 9:58 am

I have 3 young children and was thinking of getting a 20ga auto loader that they could pass down to each other. If I get a youth model would it potentially be good for an adult turkey hunting?

Several companies make youth/adult guns that come with stock spacers to add as the youth grows up. I bought an Rem 870 youth and put an adjustable stock on it.

I know Mossberg makes some great youth guns...might give them a peek.

I didn't think about an adjustable stock. I was thinking an autoloader for the recoil. I shoot a Moss 835 so I'm used to getting kicked in the face!!

I hunt with a youth 20. Just had to add a slip on recoil pad to lengthen it to fit properly.

I bought a Weatherby SA-08 youth for my daughter a while back. You can do as Jamey said and put a slip on pad over the stock to add some length for an adult. You can also do as I did and purchase an adult buttstock from Wearherby for later on down the road. I don't remember exactly what the buttstock cost but it wasn't much.
