My name is Tom.

I live in Webster, Texas.

I started hunting late in life and have been on 6 turkey hunts, 2 guided and 4 on my own. I was successful on the 2 guided ones and once by myself. I sat in a field twice with birds all around me with no luck. The birds wouldn't come in range; however, listening to those Tom gobbling and watching them strut just made this sport that much better.

One thing I've realized is that this sport is expensive. Public hunting lands where turkey can be harvested is quite a ways from me. And, the price of a 2-3 guided or semi guided hunt ranges is steep for me for 1 bird then adding the cost of another.

I joined this chat board for the following reasons:

to become a better hunter and woodsman
to learn from other people who are better at this than I am
to meet like minded people who enjoy this sport and enjoy the woods
to find out how to find landowners who either lease their properties for nominal fees or, if possible, allow people to hunt on their property at no cost
learn about other opportunities to hunt turkey in other states

These are just a few of the reasons.

THank you.

I look forward to hearing

Hey Rudy, There's some quality hunting south and east of you if you look around for it. I know there's some hogs along the rivers there, because a friend's uncle complains about crop damage all the time.. I quit duck hunting a long time ago, but one of my best friends is a duck hunting addict. He says that there's too many people around here and too many sky busters to get hunts like we used to.

Luck Counts, good or bad.

Thank you for allowing me to join! I have a desire to acquire a Grand Slam on Turkey’s and hope that I can research and get good advice on how to accomplish this Bucket wish. I’ve served in the South Carolina Army National Guard for 26 years, deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. I’m a member of a large Sportsman’s Club in Burke County Georgia and willing to host for trade out hunts if that’s a possibility. Just taking steps towards a goal and finding a starting point.
Thanks again,

From Washington state, move around a bit for work but refer to WA as my home. Got my grand slam this last spring. Moving on to the Gould's, Royal, and Super Slam. NWTF, BHA, RMEF, NRA, WWA, DU, UT, PF member. Love to mentor new hunters and willing to trade what I know for what you know, or just tell you what I know. Anyways, happy hunting.

Here is my write up of my '19 season. ... msg3195343
